ALL JAZZ LIVE
All Jazz Live came into being as a reaction against those elusive and dwindling 'jazz gigs' and the necessity to keep me and my colleagues active. In recent times, landlords and owners of various establishments have found it off putting to go through the procedure of applying and obtaining an expensive 'music and dance' license which is renewed annually and approved by the local authority following a rigorous inspection of the premises for health and safety hazards etc. From the landlords point of view, it is far easier and cheaper to simply provide a jukebox for their customers.
One landlord was very reluctant to pull out of the local jazz festival due to his experience of such difficulty;the music license required for the day had suddenly been denied by the LA (there had been no problem before), much to my frustration because I had played in his pub as part of the festival for the previous five years and was looking forward to playing there again. One of the many reasons why he had been refused a music license for the day was because he could not guarantee that a certain condition could be met: each customer should have floorspace equivalent to 1 square metre which meant that fewer people would be allowed into his usually packed pub, he would have to pay the council for the privilege and pay the band of course. This has recently been made even worse by new legistlation introduced in November 2006 where soloists and duos can now only perform in pubs and restaurants if the owner/landlord has the appropriate license which can cost up to £1000 per annum whereas previously a license wasn't required for such acts.
Our attention has now become more focused on playing for people in a private capacity. We love the music and we really enjoy being a part of a special occasion.
We have been very fortunate to have played in some wonderful venues for corporate entertainment, wedding receptions, barmitzvahs and birthdays such as: Hampton Court Palace, Woburn Abbey, Claridges London, The Hilton Park Lane, The Grosvenor London, The Institute of Directors Pall Mall, The Clermont Club Berkeley Square, etc. We have also played at: book signings, in Art galleries, in countless restuarants, on the HMS Belfast, HMS Warrior, and on mini cruises (on the Thames).
So here we are at your service. We hope that you will allow us the opportunity to make your special occasion a great success.
Yours sincerely,
John Worthington (band leader/manager)
